1,000 Free Hilton HHonors Points, Finally

A few weeks ago, Hilton announced they were awarding 1,000 free HHonors points for changing your password.  I thought this was a really smart way to encourage folks to create more security on their account.  Giving out 1,000 points is certainly an affordable way to deal with cyber-theft, especially since some of those miles will almost certainly go unused. The only problem was, Hilton wasn’t actually ready to have you change your password.  They announced shortly after the initial release of info that people should wait…. Things appear to be […]

Imploding Casinos, Sub-$50 Hotel Rooms In New York and Other News On Saturday, January 31, 2015

Don’t forget I’m giving away United beverage vouchers and a free Gogo pass. HiltonHHonors is moving to less systemwide promotions.  They announced on Milepoint that they’ll only have 2 this year, but they did not that they plan to have more targeted offers at different parts of the year.  They’ll also have an announcement about the next promo coming up on Milepoint here. Qatar Airways really is shooting for world domination.  So says View From the Wing. An actual nice hotel in New York City proper for under $50 a […]

Hilton HHonors To Offer Lifetime Status

Via One Mile At a Time, we learn that Hilton is finally getting in the game and will be offering lifetime status in 2015. Unlike Lucky, I am a big fan of lifetime status.  Since I do a lot of travel for work I don’t get to enjoy my benefits with the family as much as I would like.  So, lifetime status means I’ll be able to enjoy some perks when the crazy business travel merry-go-round finally stops. We don’t know much in the way of detail yet, other than […]

A Solid New Tool For Hotel Award Searches

Heard of Travelocity?  Expedia?  Orbitz?  Of course you have.  You’ve likely used one or more to book a trip.  But, if you have a lot of hotel points, you needed to search multiple websites to find award inventory while you were balancing airline ticket prices.  A bit of a pain in the butt.  That’s why I was pretty excited when I saw a new tool from my friend Seth, Hotel Hustle. The premise behind his new creation is the ability to search award inventory for multiple hotel chains at the same […]

Help Me Decide Which Hotel Promo/Goal To Achieve

I need your help. Unless my schedule changes, I have exactly 4 nights left in hotels between now and the end of 2014 for work travel.  With my recent realization that I have Hilton Diamond status and the chance to earn 25,000 AAdvantage miles, I’m not sure how I should handle my last four nights.  Help me decide!  I’ll be tweeting out Starbucks to some folks with amusing/helpful answers.  Here’s some potential choices: Stay 4 nights at Hyatt properties:  This would leave me one night shy of the 15,000 point tier […]

Hilton HHonors Gifting Diamond Status To AAdvantage Executive Platinum Members

I really do need to pay better attention to my airline marketing e-mails.  Apparently, American Airlines is partnering with Hilton HHonors to target AAdvantage members for status.  I received an e-mail back at the end of September offering me instant Hilton HHonors Diamond status, their top tier: Usually this requires 30 stays, 60 nights or 120,000 base points, but I’m getting it for free until March, 2016.  I’m not sure why I was targeted for it but I wasn’t the only, which is the only reason I ended up figuring […]

Westin Diplomat Leaving Starwood Preferred Guest October 30, 2014

Effective October 30, 2014, Starwood will no longer be affiliated with the Westin Diplomat in Hollywood, FL. I was majorly bummed when I read this news on One Mile at a Time.  I had read about the sale of the property recently but didn’t internalize that a change like this could come so quickly. This property was always phenomenal about upgrading Starwood Platinum members to beautiful wrap-around suites in the oceanfront tower.  They had tons of them (96, iirc), so upgrades were frequent.  They had a VIP manager who made […]

Finally A Dining Promo Worth Considering

I’m running behind on reporting this but American Airlines has announced a promo worth considering for their dining reward program. The dining reward networks that the airlines (and a few hotels) have partnered with over the years used to be a great way to earn miles and points.  But, as time has gone on the promos have gotten less lucrative and I’ve largely stopped paying attention.  This promo has possibilities.  You can’t just go in and buy a soda at 10 different restaurants like in the old days, so these […]
