The Best of the Rest is my effort to summarize all the travel/miles & points stories that interested me on a daily basis but didn’t have time to write about in length. Culled from over 100 blogs/authors I follow, some are passed along without comment, while I add my analysis to others. This is your shortcut to find out what’s going on in the travel world without having to read dozens of travel blogs to get all the best info.
I’m giving away $250 in free hotel cash. I’m also reviewing a new website that offers lower rates on many hotels than other standard booking channels, like Expedia or booking through a hotel website.

There are absolutely grosser things than sleeping in a bed that a stranger slept in before you. But, I wouldn’t pay for any of those things and I don’t want to sleep on dirty sheets. Do you?
I’d like to say I don’t believe that this many hotels failed this small test. But, I can’t say I’m terribly surprised. Do we need one of those little paper sanitation rings they used to put on toilet seats to let you know they cleaned them, except much bigger for the bed?
Many moons ago Doug Parker, Scott Kirby and the gang at US Airways went through a cleansing process where they threw off pretty much everything they could on their planes to save on weight (ultimately leading to fuel savings). They also chose not to install power ports on those older planes to save on weight.
It’s hard to say they made the right decision, because customers crave power when they fly so they can power laptops, smartphones, iPads and more.
