There’s a lot going on with Rent Day this month for Bilt Rewards members.  If you’ve been holding out for a good transfer bonus, this month offers you two attractive options.  Folks who have elite status in the Bilt Rewards program have a tiered offer for up to 100% transfer bonus to Virgin, while all Bilt Rewards members can take advantage of a 50% transfer bonus to Avianca’s Life Miles program.  If you’ve been spending on the Bilt Mastercard like I have, you hopefully have enough points to take advantage of one of these offers.

Here’s how the Virgin transfer bonus stacks up for various members:

Virgin has a new, great business class product flying on their A350 (though I’d try to avoid the 787s for their cramped layout).  You can also find some incredible deals to Asia and Africa using Virgin points. In fact, we were just having an in-depth discussion about great strategies this week in our community happy hour.

And, they can be a good option for cheap intra-Europe flights on partners such as AirFrance/KLM and ITA Airways.  I recently found business class flights a couple hours in length for 12,500 Virgin miles each, as well as flights under 10,000 miles in economy class.

LifeMiles can have some great deals for their Star Alliance partners, though they’ve recently increased the price of some popular premium cabin awards.  Still, a 50% transfer bonus can take some of the sting out of it.

ResortPass is another intriguing offer, with 2 for 1 passes.  My  podcast co-host Richard used ResortPass to get his family access to the Grand Hyatt Kauai last year while they were vacationing in an Airbnb nearby.  This can be a great way to get access to the amenities of great resorts without having to pay the full price to stay there.

Virgin Voyages BOGO (Free Companion Offer)

For the second month in a row, Bilt members will be able to participate in the “Buy One Sailor Get Second Sailor 100% Off” offer when they book an eligible Virgin Voyage during the below designated window. Eligible cabins for this offer include Sea Terrace Cabins.

Additionally, sailings booked during the below designated time window using the Bilt Access Key “VVBILT” will be eligible to receive onboard perks and benefits as follows:

  • Unlimited premium wifi
  • Two (2) specialty coffees per day
  • $100 bar tab credit
  • Access to an exclusive cocktail event
  • Complimentary laundry
  • Priority boarding at embarkation
  • Dedicated support

The window to book and activate benefits is from August 27, 2024 at 12:01am ET to September 2, 2024 at 3:00am ET. All eligible cruises and cabins will be available on a Virgin Voyages landing page accessed from the Bilt Rewards app. All eligible bookings made during the prescribed time window will automatically have benefits applied no later than September 9th. Members will receive an email from Virgin Voyages confirming their benefits have been applied.

Note: This offer is only applicable when there are a minimum of two people in the cabin, double occupancy.

The Rest Of Rent Day

Bilt also has a number of offers on the first of each month to earn points. Most of them only require you to sign-up for a free Bilt Rewards membership.

You can play the Rent Free game show in the Bilt app, and they’ve recently added more chances to win.  On top of being able to win a month’s free rent (for the top 10 scorers), the top 600 on the scoreboard will earn some bonus Bilt Rewards points.

For folks who hold the credit card, this is your reminder that you can earn double points on all categories (except rent) on the first day of every month (capped at 10,000 bonus points per month).  That means you’ll earn:

  • 6 points per dollar on dining
  • 4 points per dollar on travel
  • 2 points per dollar on everything else (except rent)

The Final Two Pennies

There’s a lot to like about Rent Day this month. You don’t need the Bilt Mastercard to earn points, but maximizing your spending on the card can lead to some pretty lucrative offers, such as the LifeMiles and Virgin offers on-hand today.

I’m not personally a fan of LifeMiles, since their customer service can be challenging.  Keep that in mind, it can be a bit sticky when plans change or your flight gets canceled/delayed.  Still, I know plenty of folks who get a ton of value out of the LifeMiles program. If you have Bilt Platinum status, a 100% transfer bonus to Virgin can be a super opportunity.  And, I’m really interested in a Virgin Voyages cruise.  I’m still trying to figure out how to have our son stay with family or friends for the length of a cruise (Virgin Voyages doesn’t allow kids).  Alas, I don’t think I’ll have that worked out before the end of Rent Day.
