ACT QUICKLY! Award Seats To/From Europe With No Fuel Surcharges
ETA: I put a few of these on hold and even though they show a Business Saver award, the cabin says “Economy”. Beware before ticketing. Not sure how this will work out. The toughest part about getting to and from Europe as an American Airlines elite member who lives on the east coast is fuel surcharges on British Airways. There’s reasonable availability for business class travel for my family, but the fuel surcharges make it much more expensive. That’s the positive and negative of oneworld availability. US Airways has flights […]
Big Day For oneworld. US Airways And TAM Both Join Yesterday.
Two big additions to oneworld yesterday, both of them telegraphed for some time. There’s plenty of information out there, here’s my small Bible’s worth: First, US Airways dropped out of Star Alliance and became part of oneworld. This is part of the merger between American Airlines and US Airways. US Airways won’t ever become an “official” member, just “affiliate members”. But, that’s just inside baseball. The important thing to know is that you can now book US Airways flights using other currencies. Amol from Hack My Trip has the scoop on how to book […]
US Airways 100% Share Miles Bonus Back, Effectively Purchase Miles for Just Over A Penny
Pretty straightforward. US Airways has offered this earlier this year. Essentially, you can transfer up to 50,000 miles from your account to someone else’s and receive a 100% bonus for doing so (meaning you earn 50,000 miles). The cost to transfer those miles is just over $500, or about 1.1 cents per point. You’ll need to have someone to transfer your miles to (and hopefully they’ll transfer them back so you both get 50,000 miles). Important side note, any account you transfer from and to needs to be open […]
Qatar Now An Official Part of oneworld Alliance
I had this post scheduled to run on the first day of Qatar’s full membership in oneworld, but United’s friendly moves with Expert Flyer and their incredibly drastic award chart changes distracted me. October 31st marked the beginning of Middle East carrier Qatar Airways full membership in the oneworld alliance. The big Middle East carriers have largely shunned the major alliances, preferring to do things on their own. For oneworld, it’s a bit of a coup to grab Qatar and add them as an official alliance partner. Qatar also […]
A Solid New Promotion for AAdvantage Members With a Business Extra Account
Are you an American Airlines AAdvantage member? How about a Business Extra member? Business Extra is a program American has had around for quite some time. 16 years, to be exact (more on that in a minute). Essentially, you apply for a Business Extra account to earn extra points when you fly on American Airlines. It’s geared towards business travelers but works just fine for family members, friends, etc. You enter your Business Extra number into any reservation to earn Business Extra points for those flights. This is in addition […]
