This Is The Last Guaranteed Time To Get A 100% Bonus On Purchasing US Airways (Converted To American Airlines) Miles

US Airways has announced their 100% bonus again on purchased miles and it’s the last time we’re going to see a “non-targeted” offer of 100%.   I got some information today from someone “in the know” about such things.  They’ve said that this will be the last time US Airways offers a targeted offer like this prior to the American Airlines merger and that this offer was moved up on the schedule to get it in before both parties merge.  That’s not necessarily a sign that American won’t do the […]

American Airlines Adds Service Between Miami and Milan

Tickets go on sale tomorrow for American Airlines’ new service between Miami and Milan.  This one strikes me as a bit odd. It’s being serviced by a 767-300, and the flight times are reasonable.  The Miami departure is at 5:55pm and arrives in Milan at 9:35 in the morning the following day.  Milan to Miami is an 11:25am departure and a 4:40pm arrival.  Not a ton of time for the plane to be on the ground in Miami, but probably not an issue. The press releases about this new route […]

LATAM Airlines Group States The Obvious: They’re Joining oneworld

LAN and TAM are two of the dominant airlines for travel to and within South America.  After their decision to merge, it was strongly believed that the combined airline would join the oneworld alliance along with American Airlines, British Airways and others. It’s official now and View From the Wing has some thoughts about how that affects the travel landscape. I’ve mentioned in the past that American is very strong to South America from the US.  They recently announced their desire to expand Sao Paolo service from pretty much all […]

Another Comfortable Way To Europe? If Iberia Can Resolve Their Labor Issues, Another Way to Use AAdvantage Miles For Good Seats

Each to his own, but I always look for new ways to travel in comfort with my family.  American Airlines has carried me for a number of those trips, along with United, Lufthansa, Japan Airlines and a few others.  I’m loyal to American, so I’m always happy to see another option to use my AAdvantage miles for international business travel. I’ve always been fine with angled lie-flat seats in Business Class, but most frequent travelers hate them.  No question, I do sleep better on a completely lie-flat seat.  Who doesn’t? […]

More News On the American Airlines Front:Talks With US Airways And British Airways

View From the Wing posted a very detailed summary of the current “goings on” with American Airlines. The big update here from my last post is that British Airways has confirmed their involvement in the process.  They’ve publicly stated they would be open to a stake in AA if that meant keeping them in the oneworld Alliance.  Now, it seems, they have officially signed an agreement to begin discussing the possibility of an investment. Gary notes that he doesn’t think any deal will happen between US Airways and AA unless […]
