Boeing 787 Dreamliner

American Airlines Announces Their First 787 Routes

It’s finally time to fly an American Airlines 787.  Ever since I took off on the inaugural 787 Dreamliner flight from the US to Tokyo, I’ve been excited for the day my favorite airline starts flying the 787.  American has officially announced their initial routes, all of which go on sale tomorrow, February 14th: Similar to United, American plans to fly their 787s between domestic hubs for a month or so to work out the kinks.  In this instance, American Airlines will begin twice daily service between DFW and ORD […]

Boeing Reports Small Cracks in Wings Manufactured For 787s Not Yet In Service

Boeing has disclosed that the manufacturer of the 787 Dreamliner wings, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, reported very small cracks in some wings that have already been delivered and some that are still in production. As it stands now, this doesn’t seem to be an issue that exists on any Dreamliners already delivered.  Mitsubishi Heavy reported this to Boeing and Boeing discovered some issues on planes in production. They’re predicting up to 2 weeks to fix each affected jet.  The cause of the cracks isn’t a huge surprise to me.  Metal fasteners […]

Best Story Of The Year, So Far. Well, for me at least. The Yankees signed a super stud pitcher from Japan to bolster our bullpen rotation for the upcoming season.  As a diehard Yankees fan, I was super pumped.  As a diehard travel geek and self-avowed 787 fan, I absolutely love how he got there. For a mere $200,000, he chartered a 787 from Tokyo to JFK for his debut in Yankee pinstripes: Japanese pitcher Masahiro Tanaka, who signed a seven-year, $155 million contract with the New York Yankees last month, didn’t […]

Dreamlifter: Very Big Plane, Little Runway

What do you do when you land one of the world’s biggest airplanes at the wrong airport? According to the audio, the Dreamlifter pilots can be heard saying to the McConnell control tower: “Ahh, yes sir, we just landed at the other airport.” Not exactly the most comforting phrase in aviation. For those that don’t know, the Dreamlifter is a hacked up 747 that Boeing uses to move wings, fuselage pieces and other parts for the 787 Dreamliner. As described to me by a Boeing official a few years ago, […]
