Daily Getaways are right around the corner and they’ve released the first 3 weeks of offers. If you’re unfamiliar, Daily Getaways are a curated set of travel deals sponsored by the US Travel Association.
Probably the biggest early news is that there is no 10% discount for paying with an American Express card.
The best example I can give for the impact on this are the Hyatt Gold Passport packages. Last year, Daily Getaways offered 40,000 Hyatt Gold Passport points for $415, discounted to $373.50 for paying with an AMEX. (just below a penny a point). This year, the $415 price is the same, but no 10% discount from AMEX increases the price to just shy of 1.1 cents per point.
Now, I still consider that a really good value for Hyatt Gold Passport points. I value them somewhere around 1.75 cents a piece, so this is a heck of a deal. But, there aren’t many packages for sale, so these will be tough to get.
Week 1 features your every day sort of offers. Alamo car rental, IHG, Club Carlson, Diamond Resorts and Hilton HHonors all have offers. While some can be used for aspirational travel, most would fit into the category of making a nice vacation more affordable.
Week 2 features some of the same but also folds in some destination trips and more themed vacations. Best Western and Choice Hotels are offering points, while Palazzo, Venetian and Caesars have various vacation packages in Las Vegas. Lastly, Universal Studios has some targeted savings as well.
Week 3 has some heavy hitters. The Hyatt points are here, along with AVIS Chairman status and rental discounts. There are packages from Loews and OMNI hotels, and more Las Vegas opportunities courtesy of MGM Resorts.
We’ll have to wait a bit longer for the offers featured in weeks 4 and 5, but these are a good start.
If you’re chasing something like the Hyatt Gold Passport points or AVIS Chairman status, the number of packages is low enough that you’ll need to be ready right at 1pm EST when they go on the sale. Most of the others should be achievable, though a bunch will sell out at some point.
I’ll have more detailed posts as we get closer as well as daily reminders.
