So, yeah. I posted about a really big European fare sale a few hours ago and then went about the rest of my day. That was fine until I saw a Tweet from Mommy Points and realized it was bigger-er.
She posted again about it recently, and that sent me digging some more. She was seeing plenty of $400-ish fares to all kinds of European cities, not just Barcelona, Madrid and smaller Spanish destinations.
I was having trouble getting Matrix to work, which is my go-to resource. So, I hopped over to Google Flights and found similar results to Summer’s from my home market of Washington, DC:
At first, I thought the additional discounts were mostly carriers like WOW Air and Icelandair. Those are less appealing to me. I have elite status with American and United, which means I can get things like free checked bags with them. After a short amount of digging, I found fares that American Airlines had to some of my favorite places:
Rome remains one of our favorite cities and I’m awful tempted to book another trip at these prices. I’m less optimistic that I’d be able to use my systemwide upgrades from American Airlines. They used to clear quite regularly. There’s also the matter that Executive Platinum members will get less upgrades next year, making it harder for a family to upgrade.
Like Mommy Points said, take 30 minutes now to figure out where you’re going with these great fares. Your home airport is almost certainly included in some of these great fares.
