A Good Illustration That Not All Points Are Created Equally

I recall a conversation with my father-in-law a number of years ago where he was taking about points he earned with a Navy Federal credit card.  He felt like no matter how much he spent on the card he never got any worthwhile travel rewards.  Because of that, he assumed there was no reason to bother collecting points and miles.  It’s a discussion I’ve had dozens of times over the years with folks and likely half a dozen with my father-in-law (I’m a glutton for punishment). How you earn points […]

I do earn referral credit if you sign-up for the Bilt Mastercard using the link in this post.  However, you don’t need to sign-up for the card to earn the 500 bonus points or use the discount code. Free points are one of my favorite things and Bilt Rewards has a super easy way to earn 500 World of Hyatt points in just a few clicks. Bilt Rewards also has a new Hyatt discount code that could save you money on your next stay.  More on that later. The free […]

Breaking Down The Best In Travel Loyalty – My Thoughts On The Freddie Awards

For the past decade I’ve helped organize the Freddie Awards, frequently referred to as the “People’s Choice Awards” for airlines and hotels.  It’s been three years since we were able to gather in person to hand out the awards and I was on hand two weeks ago in New Orleans.  Shortly after the award ceremony ended and I spent a bit of time catching up with old friends I was sprinting off an airline flight trying to get to a track meet in time to see my daughter run.  From […]

Hyatt Announces A New Promo For Q1 Of 2022

Hyatt has announced their first promotion of 2022.  As we enter 2022 questions remain about how “normal” the travel year will be.  This promotion seems to fit in the category of “normal” pre-pandemic, though it’s a bit more generous if you hold one of the Hyatt credit cards.  Here are the details of the new Bonus Journey promo: World of Hyatt members can register now through March 15, 2022, to earn 2,022 Bonus Points for every two qualifying nights after registration, for up to 20 nights from January 15 through April 20, 2022. Eligible nights do not […]

Quick Reminder: 50 Transactions On Your World of Hyatt Card By Tomorrow

If you’re a World of Hyatt credit card holder and you registered for the February promotion to earn up to 5,000 bonus points you have until tomorrow to get your 50 transactions. There’s not a whole lot of restrictions on what the transactions can be. They do need to be at least $1 each, but in theory could be multiple transactions at the same store if you’re really close to one of these point thresholds.  Because the Hyatt award chart doesn’t stretch nearly as high as Hilton or Marriott 5,000 […]

Why It’s Time To Start Lowering Hotel Award Redemption Rates (Probably Not Why You Think)

As 2020 starts to wind down, there have been plenty of announcements from airline and hotel loyalty programs designed to keep members engaged.  The first salvo revolved around reducing the requirements needed to earn elite status.  This was at a time when it seemed like we might get back to some level or normalcy fairly quickly.  Heck, at that point I thought I’d be home for 3 or 4 weeks and then back on the road.  Little did I know then that I probably wouldn’t get on another plane this […]

Hyatt Announces (Mostly) Customer-Friendly Extensions And Changes

Hyatt has announced some more changes and extensions to key benefits that should benefit most travelers.  In light of the virtually unprecedented financial impact of COVID-19, travel brands have had to quickly adapt.  Back in April, Hyatt moved to extend elite status and other key benefits such as free night awards.  At that point, nobody was really sure when travel would rebound.  The big chains made the decision to wave the white flag on getting loyalty members to qualify for status in 2020.  Now, Hyatt is tweaking a few things […]
