The Best of the Rest is my effort to summarize all the travel/miles & points stories that interested me on a daily basis but didn’t have time to write about in length. Culled from over 100 blogs/authors I follow, some are passed along without comment, while I add my analysis to others. This is your shortcut to find out what’s going on in the travel world without having to read dozens of travel blogs to get all the best info.
For 27 years, the Freddie Awards have determined the best in airline and hotel loyalty by asking you, the frequent traveler, who does best. This year had some very interesting results and incredibly close votes.
We’ve got less than a week left of voting for the Freddie Awards. The Freddie Awards represent the best in loyalty for over 25 years. The airlines and hotels nominated value the awards because they don’t come from a panel of experts. You and I each get our own vote and they’re counted equally. It only takes a few minutes to vote and make sure your voice is heard. Here’s a sample of my ballot: Program of the Year-Americas (Airline): American Airlines AAdvantage When you consider that Delta and United […]
It’s that time of year again. Since 1988 the Freddie Awards have been the voice of the frequent traveler. No panels of experts, just you and I voting on our favorite hotels and airlines. Millions of votes were cast last year and voting is already under way this year. I’ve been helping organize the voting and award ceremony for the last few years and it’s always a blast to see who the frequent traveler thinks is the best in any given year. Last year, I was surprised to see […]
Picking the best airlines and hotel chains is definitely a subjective task. The more you travel, the bigger viewpoint you have. But, we all have different things we like. I wrote about a survey recently that tried to peg the best and the worst but ended up missing here and there, likely due to the small number of respondents. The Freddie Awards have over 3 million individual travelers weighing in with their opinion, so I consider those a much better gauge of the best and worst. I’m biased, since I’m […]
Thanks to Neil M. for sending along this article from Bankrate.com (pretty sure my father tried to send it to me as well, but the link didn’t come through). I usually get a good chuckle out of broad statements like “best” and “worst” because they value of various loyalty programs is very subjective. But, just for giggles I figured I would offer my two cents on how the folks at Bankrate did on this. Southwest Easiest To Redeem Miles. And, right out of the chute, we’ve got our first […]
This is a bit of inside baseball, not really stuff the every day traveler wants to spend time reading about. But, it is interesting to me so I figured I’d write a quick post. The New American Airlines announced its senior leadership today. There are a total of 9 names (including Doug Parker’s). Of those, 3 are American Airlines folks, the other 6 US Airways. That doesn’t surprise me in the least. I was very pleased to see Maya Liebman named Chief Information Officer. Maya was the head of the […]
Checklist Item #1: Vote In Freddie Awards There are tons of travel awards out there. Some are influenced by money, others decided on by experts. But, there’s only one group of awards that are decided by the frequent traveler. Millions of them, in fact. Those are the Freddie Awards. The Freddie Awards have been recognizing excellence, as recognized by the frequent travelers, for 25 years. We’re a week or so into voting for this year’s Freddie Awards. If you haven’t taken the time to vote yet, now’s the perfect time. […]
