Two New Dots On The Domestic US Hyatt Map

Hyatt has been doing a ton of development overseas, with a very rich pipeline.  But, the US hasn’t seen nearly the same level of development.  Hyatt lacks properties in some key markets, where in others it lacks “depth of brand”, offering only one or two of their brands in a major market. The two new additions are in markets they already have properties but could definitely use another. First, the Denver market is getting a new Hyatt property that is unique while adding some well-known labels to the market.  Hyatt […]

I’m A Member Of CLEAR Again

For those unaware, CLEAR was a program that pre-dated TSA PreCheck and allowed for a “skip the line pass”.  You still needed to go through traditional security screening, but you were pushed to the front of the line.  It started 2005-ish and perished about 4 years later.  It was purchased out of bankruptcy and restarted, though with significantly less airports than before. I was lucky enough to purchase a renewal for my wife and I just a month or so before they declared bankruptcy.  The company that bought their assets out […]

Things I Find Interesting On Sunday, October 6th, 2013

Did you submit a picture to win a free airline ticket yet? View From The Wing has some news on changes to the Hyatt Visa card.  The card is now free for the first year, which I think is a big plus.  Earlier this year they added double points for restaurants, airline tickets and rental cars, which was also a positive move. On the down side, I think the benefit they added earlier that allowed you to earn credits towards elite status is a bit pricey.  $20K in spend gets […]

IHG (Formerly Priority Club) Fall Promo: The Big Win

Most people will know the program that covers such brands as Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza and Intercontinental Hotels as Priority Club.  They’ve changed the name of the program to IHG Rewards.  I don’t find their program that rewarding so I don’t spend a lot of time writing about it or staying at the properties.  That being said, they offered me a lucrative amount of points (71,800 in all) if I completed all the goals of the challenge. You need to register for the promotion to see what types of offers […]

CLEAR Picking Up A Bit Of Steam? Adds San Jose, Second New Airport In Roughly 30 Days

I don’t imagine there are a ton of fans of CLEAR right now.  When they folded a few years ago they lost all mindshare.  They were resurrected from the dead but didn’t have much relevancy because not too many airports signed on. Add to that the ability to apply for Global Entry to access TSA PreCheck and the proliferation of PreCheck, and CLEAR became pretty much obsolete. Lately, they landed a few jabs in the fight back to relevance.  The CLEAR lines were reorganized to flow directly into the PreCheck […]

Just In Case Anyone Thinks Business Travel Is Super Awesome….

I spend a lot of time talking about points and miles, reviewing hotels and commenting on this and that in the world of travel.  I’m always happy to share my experiences with you in the hopes that it makes your future travel experience more enjoyable.  I don’t spend a ton of time detailing my business travel because it’s usually not very exciting. Last week wasn’t an especially exciting week on the road.  In fact, it may have been the textbook definition of the daily grind, at least as far as […]

Hyatt News And Notes: New Properties, New Amenities

Lots of announcements for new properties at Hyatt these days: Hyatt is converting an existing property in the Cherry Creek market of Denver to a Hyatt Place.  This used to be a Loews. There’s already a number of properties in the Denver market but they don’t have a limited service presence in downtown.  While I enjoy the Hyatt Regency in Denver, I think adding a limited service Hyatt property closer to downtown is a definite plus here. They’ve announced a Hyatt Regency in Uzbekistan, scheduled to open in 2015. Expansion […]
