WOW! No Pun Intended, These Are Incredibly Cheap Flights To Europe!
Cheap flights to Europe have been rapid fire over the past few years. On top of that, we’ve seen a whole bunch of cheap flights to Iceland. If you don’t mind coach and can pack lightly, it’s a great time to travel. And, these fares are lower than I can recall seeing in a while.
WOW Air has a pretty awesome fare sale going on. I’m seeing $69 one-way fares out of my home market of Washington, DC (OK, it’s really Baltimore) through May. There are plenty of dates available. I found 6 dates in April from my home town. It’s not the only city with $69 fares. San Francisco, Pittsburgh, Chicago and Boston have them as well. On top of that, there are a bunch of cities in Europe available for as little as $89.
The Final Two Pennies
Keep in mind that if you find cheap European fares on WOW, you can also take advantage of their free stopovers in Iceland. That’s two trips for less than the price of one! And, if you can’t find a cheap flight to get home, you might be able to use miles. Think of routings like BWI-KEF (Iceland), then on to London, using miles to fly London back to BWI or IAD.
Don’t think of a San Francisco to Frankfurt fare sale as “San Francisco to Frankfurt”, or any other two city pairs for that matter. Think of it as part of a larger trip, or two trips if you work at it. Use cheap flights or miles and points to cover that last leg to your dream destination. Similarly, when fares are this cheap, leverage your points to save on hotel rooms to give yourself a truly affordable trip to Europe.
In 3 hours or less, you can get a flight to all kinds of interesting places, like Paris, Italy, Germany and Amsterdam.
I wouldn’t sleep on these fares if you’re thinking of booking them. Remember that virtually any flight that originates or departs in the US is eligible for a full refund for up to 24 hours after purchase. These fares will go quickly!
Iceland has been on our list for quite a while. The entire family is pretty eager to go. With all the added flights to the region, I kinda want to get there before there’s a McDonald’s on every corner.
I’ve said this before, but I’m closer than ever. With the availability on this fare sale, I might finally be taking the plunge.

Since flights out of STL won’t start until mid May, I can understand the higher prices. While MAC flights out of STL to Frankfurt, West Germany were no problems in my younger days, a WOW flight in a flying cattle transport might be real rough on the body.
