The Best of the Rest is my effort to summarize all the travel/miles & points stories that interested me on a daily basis but didn’t have time to write about in length. Culled from over 100 blogs/authors I follow, some are passed along without comment, while I add my analysis to others. This is your shortcut to find out what’s going on in the travel world without having to read dozens of travel blogs to get all the best info.
If you have a credit card that offers bonuses for office supply purchases, this may be of interest. I use a Chase Ink credit card to earn 5 points per dollar on office supplies. Now I can buy Delta Air Lines gift cards and earn 5X.
I don’t spend a lot of time churning cards for points, certainly not as much as some folks do. I certainly don’t consider myself an expert on the subject, though I have dabbled a bit with American Express Bluebird. You used to be able to buy Vanilla Reload cards at office supply stores and get 5X miles per dollar by purchasing them using a Chase Ink Bold or Chase Ink Plus cards(not referral links, just handy in case you want to review the cards). That went away some months ago, […]
There’s been a lot written by travel bloggers about buying gift cards at office supply stores to earn lots of points. I’ve been involved with it for a while myself, though not to the extreme of some. I know I’m supposed to get a Bluebird card and pump it up with Vanilla Reloads. Heck, View From The Wing pretty much demands it of me, daring me to prove him wrong. And, he’s right. But, I’m lucky enough to earn a ton of points through my work expenses and I’m just […]
Boy, it’s been a crazy busy week for me. I’m just getting caught up on a bunch of reading. Part of that reading was a few posts on Visa gift cards and Vanilla reloads by fellow travel blogger Frequent Miler. Visa gift cards and Vanilla reloads were a popular way to rack up the miles using Chase Ink cards not too long ago. I got to it a bit late and was certainly disappointed when it died a quiet death. I was a bit intrigued when I heard Office Depot […]
The game of collecting miles and points has, like most things in life, easy parts and hard parts. For people just getting started, I like to advise them to focus on the low hanging fruit. For me, that’s usually cards like Chase Sapphire and Ink Bold. One of the benefits I enjoy the most with Ink Bold is the 5 points per dollar you earn on all office supply purchases. Because of the exceptional variety of gift cards available at your local Staples, Office Depot or Office Max, you can […]
Here’s what’s going on in the world of travel on a Thursday in March: View From The Wing details 2 50,000 point sign-up offers that may be of interest to readers, the Virgin Atlantic American Express and the American Express Premier Rewards Gold Card. I’m not a collector of either of these currencies, but there are good reasons to get both. American Express Membership Rewards points are definitely flexible and hold reasonable value for many travelers. Virgin Atlantic is a bit more fringe based on the fact that they’re not […]
Another small data point on purchasing variable amount gift cards from Office Depot using your Ink Bold card to earn 5 points per dollar. There were a few comments on my original update post indicating that some stores still have cards and some stores don’t. When I checked back at my local Office Depot today, they actually still had both variable AMEX and VISA cards, although significantly less of both. A big chunk of the display is empty with nothing refilling it. Since it’s been a week I’m assuming they’re […]
While I was watching TV last night with my wife I happened upon a post by Mommy Points that changed my schedule around a bit today. She was reporting that it seemed variable amount gift cards were disappearing from Office Depot, at least in some denominations. That’s a bummer for me as I do purchase these gift cards using my Ink Bold card for a number of different purposes. For those new to the miles and points game, Ink Bold offers 5 points for every dollar you spend at office […]
