American Airlines appears poised to shrink their international footprint at New York’s JFK Airport. What does that mean for domestic routes that American serves from JFK?
What makes a great restaurant? For some it’s the quality of the food or the wine list. Familiarity, location, a memory perhaps. All of these things factor into my decision. I like a lot of different restaurants for a lot of different reasons. Here’s why this is my favorite Italian restaurant in New York.
The Best of the Rest is my effort to summarize all the travel/miles & points stories that interested me on a daily basis but didn’t have time to write about in length. Culled from over 100 blogs/authors I follow, some are passed along without comment, while I add my analysis to others. This is your shortcut to find out what’s going on in the travel world without having to read dozens of travel blogs to get all the best info.
Today’s Best of the Rest includes a new Starwood promo, new restrictions in NYC for Uber, no more AAdvantage redemptions on Hawaiian Airlines, Marriott bonus points for Hertz rentals and more….
For as long as I can recall, Laguardia airport in New York has had a restriction on the length of flights permissible at the airport. The “perimeter rule” restricted flights to a maximum of 1500 miles from Laguardia with very few exceptions, forcing longer flights to Newark or JFK. Now, according to the Wall Street Journal, discussions are heating up to lift the ban on those longer flights: The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which controls New York City’s three major airports, said it is studying the so-called […]

They’ll also have an announcement about the next promo coming up on Milepoint here. Qatar Airways really is shooting for world domination. So says View From the Wing. An actual nice hotel in New York City proper for under $50 a […]
A recent trip to New York’s LaGuardia airport provided me an acute reminder of the first day I decided I needed to sign up for Uber. I had flown into New York with my family late in the evening, landing at LaGuardia after 9pm because of departure delays. We stumbled out to the cab line to find the line stretching endlessly, with no cabs in sight. After about 30 minutes I was finally able to “convince” a Super Shuttle guy to squeeze us into one of his vans, our kids […]
Andrew Cuomo announced a competition that will start in 30 days for the public to submit new designs for LaGuardia and JFK airports. Seated beside him was Vice President Joe Biden, an intelligent politician in his own right, who frequently manages to stick his foot in his mouth. It was earlier this year when he said the following at a speech about improving the transportation infrastructure in the US: “But if I blindfolded you and took you to LaGuardia Airport in New York, you must think, ‘I must be in […]
