Triple Cash Back (Or Membership Rewards Points) On Rakuten This Weekend

I’m a deal junkie and generally like to take advantage of opportunities when they present themselves.  That means I use a shopping portal for just about every purchase I can.  This weekend, one of the easiest shopping portals to use, Rakuten, is offering triple cash back on a number of useful merchants.  Since you can also choose American Express Membership Rewards points instead of cash back, this means triple Membership Rewards points as well.  And, some of the vendors offering triple rewards also “sell” travel in a variety of ways.

If you don’t have a Rakuten account, you can use my referral link to earn $30 in bonus cash back when you spend $30.

Here’s an example of some of the retailers offering triple cash back (or Membership Rewards points):

There are also a few travel opportunities:

a screenshot of a logo9% cash back if you have an upcoming paid IHG stay can be a pretty healthy discount on your next vacation.  Viator can also be a solid resource for booking some local excursions.  On top of these opportunities, Hertz is offering increased cash back (5%) for car rentals.  It can be helpful to make a refundable car rental booking during sales like this even if you’re not 100% locked down on your travel plans.  You can always cancel later with no penalty.

Marriott was offering 3% last night on Rakuten but it’s down to 1.5%.  You can usually find a better deal than that.  And, even though 10% on Expedia or Booking.com might look attractive, keep in mind that customer service through those platforms can be pretty abysmal.

The Final Two Pennies

Holidays are usually a good time to maximize earning via shopping portals.  Better offers may pop up elsewhere throughout the weekend, but these are some of the best I see out there right now.  I appreciate you using my referral link if you don’t already have a Rakuten account.  If you’re just signing up, it’s important to know that, while you can select Membership Rewards as your earning preference, you generally can’t change that selection later.
