Earn Bonus Points When You Check-In To SPG Properties!
Just announced, effective now through June 15, 2018 SPG members who book through the SPG site/app and use the SPG Mobile Check-In feature will receive an additional 250 Starpoints! This offer is available at over 1,100 SPG properties across seven brands including St. Regis, The Luxury Collection, Sheraton, Westin, Le Meridien, Tribute Portfolio and Four Points. It’s the first major promotion to be rolled out since the big merger announcement two weeks ago.
SPG Mobile Check-In
The SPG app has been adding increased functionality as more and more of their properties upgrade to their SPG Keyless room access system. The app is incredibly easy to use for booking, checking in, requesting late check-outs and reading available property amenities. Ease of use of the SPG Keyless option however, depends on the property and how integrated their systems are. Sometimes it’s easier just when the card is waiting for you at the front desk. I’ve had my fair share of experiences where SPG just never loads the mobile key card on my phone.
That’s a by-product of some properties needing to perform a process at the property level before your key is available. Hilton does a better job with this than SPG in my recent experience.
By offering this promotion, the newly merged programs hope “to encourage more members to experience the freedom and ease that comes with using the SPG Mobile app”

The Final Two Pennies
This is a really easy way to rack up some SPG Starpoints before all the changes hit this coming August. It’s also interesting to see investment being made in the SPG App…while the programs might be merging, perhaps we’ll be living in a two app SPG/Marriott world for a while longer?
Marriott is conspicuously absent from this effort. I wonder if this bonus is a test of how many customers they can get to engage with mobile check-in before they spend money developing the tech on the Marriott side of the house.
