No Bull! Something I Didn’t Know You Can’t Bring Through TSA Security

You learn something new every day.  I was at a conference dedicated to travel blogging this weekend.  It was the Boarding Area conference, where 80 of my fellow Boarding Area bloggers were in attendance. Every good conference needs a nickname, and since we abbreviate Boarding Area “BA”, this was BAcon.  Mmmm, bacon.  The only thing I love as much as bacon is donuts.  But, I digress.

Randy Petersen is the founder of Boarding Area and I was hanging around chatting with him when one of my fellow bloggers showed up with a gift for him.  Now, Randy owns a ranch in Southern Colorado.  It’s called Bear Canyon Ranch and it’s pretty darn cool.

That was the genesis of this picture from BAcon two years ago.  You see, we were celebrating a milestone birthday for Randy (yes, he’s turning 29.  Again).  So, we got him a saddle for the barn at the ranch.  And, somehow, I ended up being the feature of the show.

Back To The Task At Hand

Fast forward to this BAcon and another blogger bestowed an awesome “ranch-themed” gift which Randy gladly accepted and packed in his carry-0n.  He even checked the TSA prohibited list to make sure it wasn’t there.  I did, too, after the fact:

It’s that final little blurb that’s the TSA fall-back position.  That’s why Randy called me in a bit of panic after I left the airport.  You see, they wouldn’t let him pack the bull whips he’d received as a gift.

  1. I was flying over Prague and Munich with this present and didn’t have a problem. I was chatting with the agent in Prague about his horses. Ok, no antique horse whips from the 19th century in a carry on in the US.
