LAX Walkway Between Terminal 4 And Tom Bradley International Terminal Opened Today!!!
Most of my readers are looking at this and saying either:
“What is this?”
or
“Who cares?”
For as long as I can remember (read=forever) if you were connecting to an international flight at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX, the one airport code pretty much everyone knows) you had to leave security and re-clear security in the Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT). Not in every conceivable scenario, but pretty much any time I connected in LAX for international flights I was clearing security again. And, TBIT was usually a hot mess of long lines of people, many of whom didn’t have a great deal of experience clearing security.
Enter the connector between Terminal 4 (where American Airlines calls home) and TBIT which opened today while I was connecting on a flight. That means no more re-clearing security if you have to connect in TBIT.
It’s open. It’s a hallway. It’s one of the greatest hallways in aviation. 😉
That means oneworld connecting passengers no longer have to worry about budgeting time to clear security (and those Delta folks who can walk from Terminal 5, but we’re biased towards American, so moving on….).
I’ll have a lot more on my trip when the dust settles, but for now, a few quick pics of the hallway that makes an hour-plus transfer into a less than 10-minute walk. You’ll find the entrance to the walkway near security at Terminal 4.
Looking down over the line to get through security at TBIT. Yes, that’s one long security line. Snaking back and forth. Kinda like that movie Groundhog Day.
And, finally, the good stuff.
Healthy (everything is relative) folks like me can make the walk from T4 to TBIT in less than 10 minutes. Hallelujah!

By far the best feature of this new walkway is that it frees people from the really limited food options in T4. Overall LAX has limited options (I can really only speak to terminals 3, 4, 6 and TBIT) so this really makes me happy. I was in T4 last week and they said it was going to be weeks yet. So happy. Check out vanilla bake shop if you get a chance on your next jaunt over to TBIT….before this I it was easier to drive to their Santa Monica location than deal with TBIT security!
Matt, I was too busy eating lunch in the Qantas F lounge. 😀
I’ll definitely review the restaurants next time I’m over there. I’m never one to turn down a bake shop.
So agree! Very tired of the limited options in T4.
Some really good looking options at TBIT.
We used it for the first time a few months ago – what an improvement!
It is not the one of the greatest hallways in aviation. It just goes to show how crappy of an airport LAX is compared to any other modern airport. What other major city’s airport in a first world country doesn’t have a people mover system between terminals? If you’re making a connection between terminal 3 and terminal 7, LAX is doom for you.
Left, JFK, for starters.
I’ve taken more than one long stroll through LHR, for another.
Fredd, amen. Not to mention that crazy bus network.
Does it get you to other good LAX lounges?
Juan, you bet. We hit the joint oneworld business class lounge and Qantas First lounge. Walked by the Skyteam lounge.
Do you see any problems with this? Flying out of TBIT on NH, but only have AA day pass. Check-in at TBIT, walk outside to T4, go through security, hang out in lounge, head to TBIT gate via walkway to avoid TBIT security.
Go, I see no issues with that.
Nothing to dispute!
