The Best of the Rest is my effort to summarize all the travel/miles & points stories that interested me on a daily basis but didn’t have time to write about  in length.  Culled from over 100 blogs/authors I follow, some are passed along without comment, while I add my analysis to others.   This is your shortcut to find out what’s going on in the travel world without having to read dozens of travel blogs to get all the best info.

Here’s what I’m reading about today:

Cheap Flights of The Day: NYC to Barbados for just over $200.  Not a lot of availability but great destination in the winter.  And, cheap flights to the Mouse from Chicago, where they’re already buried in snow.

InsideFlyer Thread of The Day: 25% off Hyatt sale at over 100 properties!

Boeing picked up two orders for the 747-8i.  They didn’t announce the customer or whether it’s the freighter or passenger version.  I’ve spoken in the past on the lack of orders and how optimistic the manufacturers (more specifically Airbus) are about the size of the market.  While Boeing has seen additions and cancellations, Airbus hasn’t seen any orders since 2014.

Briggs & Riley is offering $50 off every $350 spent on their entire collection.  These are my absolute favorite suitcases.  My Briggs bag has over 1 million miles on it and is still going.  I actually have it in the shop right now for some free repairs.  It’s only the second time I’ve had to take advantage of their free repair service in the life of the bag.  They have discounts on Amazon or eBags from time to time on certain bags, but you won’t see sales on everything very often.

Easy free $20 off $300 in Visa gift cards.  Easy!

Are there award seats on American’s new flight to New Zealand?

My $120,000 vacation.  Well, not mine, but that’s the title of the article.  It’s a look inside the Four Seasons 24-day extravaganza around the world.  Anyone have $120,000 I can borrow?

Air Canada jumps into the crowded pool of programs who have a revenue-based status element.
