I spent 10 days in hotels quarantining with COVID-19 to keep my family safe. Along the way I learned why hotel life in limited service and extended hotels leaves much to be desired.
I recall a conversation with my father-in-law a number of years ago where he was taking about points he earned with a Navy Federal credit card. He felt like no matter how much he spent on the card he never got any worthwhile travel rewards. Because of that, he assumed there was no reason to bother collecting points and miles. It’s a discussion I’ve had dozens of times over the years with folks and likely half a dozen with my father-in-law (I’m a glutton for punishment). How you earn points […]
Lifetime elite status has been a goal of mine since I got onto the road warrior carousel/roller coaster 15 years ago. My father was a million miler with the American Airlines AAdvantage program long before I became a road warrior. Heck, for one of his milestone birthdays he had also just hit 2 million lifetime miles on American. The cake had a bigger AA logo than the Happy Birthday message. Back when I hit lifetime Marriott status in 2018, I kinda thought I was done with lifetime status for a […]
Hilton is the first of the big hotel chains to make a move, and in a big way. They’ve announced changes to their elite status program and reservation flexibility that are very positive for customers. Is it enough for them to steal business from their competitors? We’re months away from having that answer.
You might wonder why I’m bothering to write this post in late February. While I’ve always written this blog with you, the reader in mind, I do use this as a place to keep track of things. I like to look back and see if my travel ended up the way it did. I reviewed my airline elite status earlier this year, and now it’s time to take a look back at my 2019 hotel elite status achievements. As a business traveler, I value elite status. It provides me two […]
Wondering how many points or miles you should be holding onto? That’s the question I answer in this week’s Final Two Pennies. Each person has their own motivation when it comes to travel and how to redeem your miles and points. Don’t let me change your mind if you already have a clear direction. But, if you’re not 100% sure, listen in and let me give you my two cents. We’ve also got Gary Leff of View From The Wing back on to talk about the new partnership between AA and Hyatt […]
Hilton continues to try to up their game in the hotel loyalty space. They are rolling out a beta program offering confirmed suite upgrades at time of booking to elite Diamond members of the Hilton Honors program. If this comes to fruition it vaults them over Marriott to a similar level as Hyatt in treatment of top-tier elite members when it comes to upgrades.
The Best of the Rest is my effort to summarize all the travel stories that interested me on a daily basis. I don’t have time to write about them in length, but picked some of the best below. It’s a shortcut to find out what’s going on without reading dozens of travel blogs to get the best info.
The Best of the Rest is my effort to summarize all the travel/miles and points stories that interested me on a daily basis. I didn’t have time to write about them in length, but I picked some of the best below. Culled from over 100 blogs/authors I follow, some are passed along without comment, while I add my analysis to others.
