Triple Points On Gas And EV Charging Through October 31st On Bilt Rewards Mastercard

Bilt Rewards is a quickly moving from the being the new kid on the block to the popular kid people want to hang out with. They launched with the ability to earn points for paying rent without any fees. Those points were redeemable for some of the most valued travel partners, such as American Airlines and Hyatt hotels. Since then, they’ve added the Bilt Rewards Mastercard, a no annual fee card that allows renters and non-renters alike to earn flexible currency they can spend in a variety of different programs. With bonus categories such as 3X on dining and 2X on travel, the card has a similar earning structure to the popular Chase Sapphire Preferred.
They’ve continued to add more transfer partners at a pretty rapid clip, with three new ones announced just last week. Now, they’re back out with an announcement that gas purchases (and charges that code as EV charging) will be eligible to earn 3 points per dollar through the end of October.
We discussed this promotion in a lot more detail, including how it came to life in less than 3 days, on my podcast this week.
The first $1,250 of charges during the promo period will qualify for the 3X bonus points. You have until October 31, 2022 to earn the bonus and there are some restrictions, such as gas or EV charging purchased at warehouse clubs such as Costco or Sam’s Club.
The Final Two Pennies
The majority of credit cards that earn travel rewards in the US fall into two categories. The first category are cards where the issuer comes up with a master plan and rolls out bonus categories with the launch of the credit card. Card holders rarely see new bonus categories roll out. The second category are cards where rotating cards are a main feature. It’s encouraging to see Bilt Rewards executing a hybrid approach early in the life of their credit card. Last year they offered bonus points on all Black Friday purchases. It will be interesting to see what comes next as Bilt continues to iterate.
