Norwegian Air Expands Winter Service Between The US And Caribbean
Norwegian Air is not only bringing back their Caribbean service again this year but they’re also adding new service.
For those unfamiliar, Norwegian is a discount carrier that offers service on a variety of route in Europe as well as some service to the US from a few key cities in Europe. Last year, they chose to park a few planes in the Caribbean, offering service in between the US and two islands most people haven’t visited, Martinique and Guadeloupe. The service operated to Boston, New York and Baltimore, giving folks in the Northeast a true low-cost option to the Caribbean.
I had assumed they would continue the service, and Wandering Aramean reported that it’s official. They launched the service with fares as low as $79 and those fares continued to pop up on certain dates last year. They’re bringing back those low fares, at least at the outset. And, according to the announcement, they’re adding service between Fort Lauderdale and Guadeloupe. Remember that this is a true low-cost carrier, so expect fees for things like checked bags, seat assignments and food, though onboard Wifi is free (and was tragically slow on my flight).
While this isn’t luxury flying, you get at least what you pay for on these routes, if not more. I flew the inaugural flights last year and enjoyed the flights. There are plenty of pictures and description in my recap if you’re curious what a 4+ hour flight on Norwegian is like.
I realized when I saw this announcement that I neglected to write-up my brief stay in Guadeloupe, though I did lay out my thoughts on my short stay in Martinique.
I didn’t spend a long time on Guadeloupe but I did really enjoy it. Upon landing, I drove to the Pointe de la Grande Vigie, at the Northernmost tip of the island.
It’s a short walk from the parking lot to some stunning views of the island. Though the path is a bit rough at times, it’s not a strenuous walk at all. It’ll take 15 minutes at most to see all the views.

Great photos Ed
Thanks, RoamAmore. I wish I had posted them a few months ago when I got back. Pointe de la Grande Vigie was a beautiful place to visit.
