Royal Palms Resort in Arizona Joining Hyatt Unbound

Hyatt is continuing to grow the Unbound collection only a few months after announcing the new brand of “unbranded” hotels.  They’ve reportedly announced that they’re purchasing the Royal Palms Resort & Spa in Phoenix, Arizona.  It looks like a beautiful hotel, currently part of Destination Hotels.

This is not a new strategy for Hyatt.  It was just a few months ago that they announced the Unbound collection, acquiring the Thompson hotel and renaming it the Confidante.  They’re leveraging their buying power to add properties in markets they want to expand, increasing the size of Hyatt overall.  They periodically spin-off hotels to generate cash, though likely with long-term management agreements.

It’s great to see another property being added to the Hyatt family, especially in the Unbound collection.  SPG has the Luxury Collection of properties which I’ve always enjoyed.  Having another place to redeem Gold Passport points that’s not a mainstream cookie cutter property is a win for Hyatt fans.  This is the 6th hotel in the Unbound collection.  Here’s hoping for a bunch more.

  1. I’ve stayed there before and I LOVED it. The restaurant there is fantastic too, and currently, you can get restaurant credit (plus free breakfast room service) when you book it through certain agents.
