Registration Is Open For The First Starwood Preferred Guest Promotion of 2018

Starwood Preferred Guest has officially announced their first promotion of 2018.  The promotion leaked out a few days ago.  We now have official confirmation.

Registration is open for the promotion.

Starwood Preferred Guest Promotion

As we suspected from the leak a few days ago, SPG is offering double Starpoints on all stays after your second stay.  They’re also offering 500 bonus Starpoints for stays that include a weekend night.

“Participating Properties” Snags Us Again

As a general rule, SPG always has a list of properties that don’t participate.  SPG flips that around and they publish a list of participating properties.  That means for every stay you book, you’ll need to double-check if the property you prefer is actually included.  Here’s the list of participating properties for the upcoming promotion.

The list of the participating properties actually looks fairly comprehensive for US properties.  Still, I regard it as a royal pain in the butt to have to sift through that list.

The Final Two Pennies

This promotion runs from January 16 to April 15, 2018.  This dovetails nicely in with the final SPG promotion of 2017.  There’s no down-time between promotions.  Double points is a nice bump.  But, remember that you need to get to at least two stays before you earn anything.  Starpoints are one of the hardest points to earn.  Their credit card doesn’t have any bonus categories, nor do they have a lot of partners.  Being able to earn bonus Starpoints at Marriott hotels definitely help.

You should absolutely register for this promotion today.  It takes 30 seconds and you won’t get stuck with a pop-up stay later where you miss out on bonus points.
