Las Vegas Casino Giving Away Almost 2,000 Free Airline Tickets to Vegas
Las Vegas has been one of the hardest hit cities in the United States during the COVID-19 crisis. So much of the economy depends on travel and tourism. With unemployment rates in the state reaching 30%, folks in Las Vegas can use a break. One casino owner is helping Vegas make another comeback while also helping people score a cheap vacation.
The D Casino, located on Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas, gave away 1,000 free one-way airline tickets yesterday. The giveaway was so popular that Derek Stevens, the owner of The D, decided to purchase another 700 one-way tickets to give away. Thanks to Tommy D for sending this story along.
From the looks of the dedicated page on The D website, the tickets are all sold out. However, it’s probably worth bookmarking in case Derek Stevens gets an itch to hand out some more free airline tickets.
This giveaway was about as “no strings attached” as you can get. You didn’t need to buy a hotel room at The D, though I’m sure they loved it if you stopped by. It was only a one-way ticket to Vegas, so you were responsible for finding your way home. But, industrious folks with a stash of points and miles could have managed to cash in some Hyatt or Hilton points for a free hotel room and found a cheap flights or used points to get home.
More Deals Like This Are Coming
This giveaway is getting quite a bit of press activity and love on social media. It’s a good reminder that there are plenty of businesses out there who will want to attract customers as travel restrictions loosen. Social media is much more prevalent than at any other time in our lives. Some companies will place value on a campaign that has a good chance to go viral. If you feel comfortable traveling this summer, I suspect there will be some fabulous deals available on short notice. I’ll do my best to let you know when I see them!

Cool!
People want to travel, and they are not virus spreading monsters like the television makes it seem.
Hopefully people have fun and share the story with other humans who like fun.
The sooner we get back to normal, the better for everyone.
(and, I personally dislike all things las vegas, but it’s a cool story!)
Don, it is a cool story. I’m not personally ready to step back on a plane today, but each positive data point helps me feel more comfortable!
I’m all for traveling. Just hope people do it responsibly… with so many lives and jobs affected, not sure a gambling trip is exactly what is needed during the uncertainty. Not saying LV is just gambling, just sayin…
OTJ, I respect that opinion. I’m not ready to get on a plane for a leisure trip. But, I don’t begrudge someone who is. The casinos are doing plenty to social distance. And, as you say, plenty to do in Vegas other than gamble.
Since when does 1700 = 2000????
Lance, it doesn’t. That’s why the title says “almost”.
I’ve gotten emails offering $20 per night hotel room. However, the average bs fee is $40, plus taxes. Those operating Vegas hotels should consider cutting those bs fees to reflect what the consumer actually is offered.
As long as everyone is wearing a mask I’m ready to fly. Vegas would have to dump their fake resort fees before that would be one of my choices.
