Did Wyndham Change Their Hotel Promotion AFTER It Started?

Hotel promotions are a valuable part of hotel loyalty for frequent travelers.  There’s no question that travelers make decisions based on these bonus offers.  Over the course of a year on the road, they can add up to multiple free nights for a family vacation.

It’s extremely rare that a major hotel chain would change a promotion while it was ongoing.  And yet, Wyndham has done it before.  And, they appear to have done it again.  The Gate is reporting that Wyndham decided to end a recent promotion early.  They did so without actually telling customers who had reservations booked:

Well, the terms of that promotion have allegedly been changed, according to several members of FlyerTalk, as you are apparently out of luck if your booked your reservations after Thursday, January 18, 2018 — and members have reported not receiving any notification to any changes in the rules of the promotion.

The Final Two Pennies

I can’t recall Starwood Preferred Guest or Hyatt (my two preferred hotel chains) ever altering a promotion like this after it started.  I don’t collect Wyndham Rewards points for a number of reasons.  There are values to be found there.  But, trust is just one of the reasons to be cautious when choosing a hotel program.

As the Wyndham logo says (maybe about their reputation)…..

  1. I know I sound like a broken record on this and I don’t mean to come off as negative. But they have done this sort of thing in years past. Combine the below average properties in their portfolio and Wyndham just is not a good program. Look elsewhere. Unless you are forced to stay a bunch at their properties for corporate reasons, location, reasons, etc. just move up to IHG, Marriott or heck even hilton.

    1. Dan, couldn’t agree more. I’m not a big fan of most of their properties. That’s the primary reason I stay away. They do offer value for families in certain markets. But, that’s situational usage at best.
