How To Link Your Starwood Preferred Guest Account To Marriott Rewards
Things have been moving fast since the merger between Marriott and Starwood was approved just a few days ago.
I figured it would take some time for more information to come out, but it turns out Marriott and Starwood put all that time they were waiting to very good use.
Yesterday came the announcement that Marriott and Starwood were ready to provide status matches for elite members in both programs. They also announced the transfer ratio between the two programs for loyalty points (3 Marriott Rewards points equals 1 Starpoint).
This is all facilitated by linking your Starwood Preferred Guest account to your Marriott Rewards or Ritz-Carlton Rewards account. How? Here are the step-by-step instructions:
Navigate to members.marriott.com:
From there, you need to click on “Link Account” in the upper right-hand corner.
You’ll have to choose a path to take, and you’ll need account credentials for your SPG account and your Marriott or Ritz account. I started with my SPG info.
After that, I was prompted to login to my SPG account.
Since you can only have a Marriott or Ritz account, you’ll need to pick which path next.
From there, you’ll need your Marriott/Ritz credentials to login:
Next, I verified my information:
As soon as I clicked “Finish Linking”, the system confirmed my account were linked and correctly identified my status:
I logged into my Marriott Rewards account and, sure enough, I was upgraded to Platinum status:
Marriott or Ritz-Carlton?
If you’re mostly an SPG elite member, you may not know that you can only have either a Marriott Rewards or a Ritz-Carlton Rewards account. Since you have to choose which one to link to, which path should you take. This post by Lucky at One Mile at a Time can help shed some light on that decision.
