Cheap Flights To Tokyo, Delta Telling You Why You Shouldn’t Collect Their Miles And A Surprising Number Of Airline Crews Having Sex In-Flight
Rooting for my Dookies to kick UNC’s, ahem, this evening. Here’s what I’m reading about today in the world of miles and points:
Cheap Flight of the Day: $650 round-trip to Tokyo from the East coast.
In Case You Missed It: Increased bonuses on the SPG AMEX cards just for the month of March. The bonus has never been this high. Check out my month in pictures. And, I’m giving away a weekend at a great hotel!
Delta really said that publicly that they’d rather you didn’t redeem your miles for free flights. Or upgrades. They’ll let you buy an overpriced beer. Maybe in the future they’ll let you buy a printed boarding pass.
I was surprised by how many airline crew members admit to having sex during flight.
SPG has a new partnership with the Chicago Cubs. I love that you can use your Starpoints for these sort of moments. It’s been a few years, but my single best use of Starpoints was for a tennis lesson with Andre Agassi at the US Open. I hope Marriott is listening when SPG members say loud and clear we don’t want these partnerships to go away.
Samsonite buys Tumi in a marriage of brands that are overpriced for their quality (Tumi) and selling lots of mediocre luggage based on their reputation (Samsonite).
Earlier in the week Hyatt announced a new brand, Unbound. Now there’s news of a new 3rd night free promo at those hotels.
This is the 3rd or 4th story I’ve seen recently of a United employee giving great service. My best friend was mentioning how United employees he speaks with are happier (he flies United a lot). I told him my true belief. It’s actually not that hard to establish a really good culture (especially as a new leader). It’s hard to sustain it. That’s Oscar Munoz’s challenge. I hope he succeeds for two reasons. I’m based in IAD, one of their hubs. And, in case Doug and Scott ruin AA, I’d like a backup choice.
