Southwest Announces Plans To Fly To Costa Rica

Terry Maxon of the Dallas Morning News reports that Southwest Airlines has filed to fly from Baltimore (BWI) to San Jose, Costa Rica(SJO).

Now, Southwest isn’t the low-cost carrier it used to be. But, I suspect this will help lower fares in my area. The lowest fare from the region that I could find for dates shortly after they launch next year are over $600 RT. I would expect those to come down.

Costa Rica has been on my radar for a while since Hyatt announced the opening of Andaz Papagayo. Unfortunately, Papagayo is 4-ish hours away from SJO (LIR is a lot closer).
