Time To Register For SPG’s 1st Quarter Promo
I probably wouldn’t have devoted a whole post just to registering for the new SPG promo. But, when I read the e-mail that popped into my inbox, I couldn’t help but notice what an odd picture it is:
Full disclosure. I did try to mimic that pose while standing in the office of someone who works for me (sorry Jessica), and I’m fairly certain I now need a chiropractor.
I reviewed this and the other major 1Q promos a few weeks ago. It’s not overly thrilling, but in today’s day of increase rates and occupancy and diluted promos, this is about on par. And, since SPG is one of my go-to programs, it’s points to pick up for stays I was going to make anyway.
Remember, it always makes sense to register for the promos even if you don’t have a stay at those brands planned. Plans can change and it’s free to register.
Thx for keeping us posted! I’m new to your blog… But am certainly enjoying it.
Decent SPG promo. Not as good as Marriott’s MegaBonus ’13 IMHO…
I got registered the other day. I’m hoping I can rake in the points with the stackable Le Meridien promo. I guess I will be in Dallas a lot the next 2 months 🙂
Pizza ya!
That’s a great point! At first I thought this wouldn’t apply to me but then I thought “It’s January, I have no idea what’s going to happen!” Thanks for the heads up!
Thanks for the reminder!
I agree w/ Chris Smith. Better than nothing, but Marriott’s buy two nights get one free promo crushes this.
I agree with the Marriott statement, minus the fact that the free night redemptions are limited to category 1-4 hotels. While having a fairly nice max value of 20,000 Marriott points (category 4), I still seem to have a hard time finding many properties in that range that are especially inspiring..
I tend to be in that camp of finding value in the free night if I can use it somewhere aspirational. If not, I’d prefer points so I can redeem when and where I wish. While I think the Marriott promo is a generous one for people who regularly patronize Marriott, I don’t, so I’d just as soon stockpile SPG points. Taking it a step further, though, I’ll be booking Hyatts for my paid stays and SPG for my award stays in 1Q. Progress towards Lifetime Diamond is worth more to me than the current SPG bonus.

I agree, you can’t always stay in the same place or rely on your favorite chaining being available everywhere. It’s probably better to stockpile some free points just in case you need them. If you don’t, no harm done!
Yes, indeed, there is something odd about the photographed person’s center of gravity.
I always do. Thanks for the reminder.
