Boeing Has Some Fun With A Recent 787 Test Flight!
It appears Boeing is having some fun with a recent test flight.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is a game-changing plane from a passenger comfort standpoint. It’s one of the reasons I love flying on it. I’ve had the pleasure to hop onboard a 787 a dozen times or so, including a once-in-a-lifetime inaugural flight from Boston to Tokyo.
The Dreamliner also offers some very pleasing numbers for the airlines that operate it. With carbon fiber wings and energy-efficient engines, the 787 makes it profitable for airlines to offer “long, thin routes”. That is, places far away that may not have the passenger demand to fill a true widebody plane.
Boeing decided to have some fun testing that range. They flew around the country making a pretty interesting looking flight path. Thanks to Paul S. for sending this Flight Aware map my way:
Unabashed Awesomeness
I mean, that’s unabashed AVGeek awesomeness. The flight went 18 hours, showing off that the plane has plenty of range. The plane was the 787-8, the first iteration of the Dreamliner. I don’t think I’d want to hang out on a 787 for 18 hours, but I imagine these pilots had fun with this adventure.
