20 Years Later, Alanis Morissette Adds Southwest Airlines to the “Ironic” Lexicon
I have very eclectic taste in music. My iTunes library has everything from Aerosmith to Public Enemy. And, there’s a bit of Alanis Morissette in there as well. I was tooling around the Award Travel 101 Facebook group last night. Incidentally, it happens to be a pretty cool place to get your travel questions answered. One of their members, Emilia R, posted a video that I got a pretty good laugh at in the group.
Southwest Airlines is normally revered in our circles, especially for their awesome Companion Pass, the single best benefit in travel. Alanis re-wrote the Ironic lyrics two decades later and found a pretty funny way to weave Southwest in there:
The Final Two Pennies
Alanis has a good sense of humor. Her joke about Southwest reminds me of a pretty funny story involving my daughter causing a bit of a row on a Southwest flight when she was 3 years old. But, that’s a story for another day.

It’s ironic, but as I read this earlier I was sitting in what I call a Southwest First Class seat – the Exit Row!
PSL, score!
Still funny and relevant after over three years. I remember when this first aired (Nov. 9, 2015). Thanks for bringing it back.
