GADZOOKS! $462 Round-Trip Flights to Australia!

Never used the word Gadzooks in a post title, so figured I’d squeeze that one in here. 😉

Right now, flights to Australia are as cheap as $462 round-trip. That’s about the cheapest I can recall prices being for flights to Australia.  We saw $600 fares a few weeks ago and thought those were awesome.  This isn’t quite as widely available but it’s a phenomenal price.

My buddy over at God Save The Points has all the details.  I just checked and the fares are still valid.

These fares are great but I can’t say I’m shocked. There are a lot more options to get to Australia today versus just a few years ago. Heck, I managed to snag four business class awards on United to Sydney for my family in the summer of 2019.

Melbourne can be a tough place to get too cheaply. In fact, our resident expert on Australia flights, David Feldman was just on my podcast talking about strategies to get to Melbourne and other Australia destinations. Flights there from the US for around $750 is the best I can recall seeing.

The Final Two Pennies

When flight deals like these pop up the first thing I think of is flexible points like Chase Ultimate Rewards (the currency for Chase Sapphire and Ink Business credit cards). If you can find flights this cheap, you use your Ultimate Rewards points to transfer to a hotel partner like Hyatt or Marriott.

On my short trip to Sydney last year, I had an incredible stay at the Park Hyatt and a pleasant stay at a Starwood property, both using points. Combining points to cover the cost of your hotel stay with cheap flights is a great way to make an expensive destination downright affordable.

Since these flights originate in the US, you’ll have 24 hours after you book to cancel these flights and receive a full refund.  That means if you’re on the fence you should book something NOW and then cancel within 24 hours if you decide not to take the trip.  With prices this low, I wouldn’t expect them to be around forever!
