United Airlines Cyber Monday Sale: 50% Off Award Tickets To Europe. Almost Too Good To Be True!
See All of the Black Friday/Cyber Monday Deals I’m Keeping Track of
United Airlines has a really interesting Cyber Monday deal today. You can book award flights from the US (or Canada) to Europe for up to 50% off the normal amount of miles. How big of a discount depends on your status and whether you hold one of the United credit cards:
What would truly make this sale too good to be true is if it included business class awards as well. Alas, it’s only for economy awards. But, it is still a steal for economy awards through the end of March, 2019. It’s valid for round-trip travel
You can see the full details on the United website.
The Final Two Pennies
This is a great Cyber Monday travel sale. There’s no question I’d prefer to fly to Europe in a lie-flat business class seat. But, for folks who can work on the travel dates from January to March for this deal will get themselves a great deal on their next European vacation. You can even rebook a trip you already have scheduled to these lower rates, though you’ll pay change fees. That’s where being a 1K member and getting free award changes can come in pretty handy.

I had been looking at flights last week, and most of them were already on sale.
Gizmosdad, same “sale” prices as the current chart?
Gary at VFTW had a comment that really resonated with me. He said something along the lines of you don’t really think that these deals are for your benefit, do you? I’d never thought of that. Using that mindset, this sale is ok but certainly not amazing. The tier system obviously helps the majority of members the least, and the sale excludes periods when leisure travelers actually want to use their miles. Then again, maybe I’m just being cynical.
Christian, it’s not hard to be cynical in today’s world. That being said, about half the time this window would cover our spring break week for school. And, it covers other long weekends where we might get away as a family. We wouldn’t fly coach on a short weekend trip to Europe. But, I can imagine a bunch of folks will save quite a few miles with this “sale”. If you wanted to travel in this time period and it cost you 50% less miles, isn’t that a win?
