Disney World continues to grow at a pace that’s pretty incredible. Disney Springs has had a complete face lift and continues to grow. Hollywood Studios is getting a Toy Story Land. And, Star Wars continues to be a larger part of Disney World, creeping into many different areas of the park.
We now have confirmation on the next really big expansion of the Star Wars franchise at Disney World. A Star Wars-themed hotel will be connected directly to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney World’s Hollywood Studios. According to WDWNT:
At the resort, guests immediately become active citizens of the galaxy and can dress up in the proper attire. Every resort window will also have a view into space. The opportunity for immersion at this resort will also stand out among all Disney resorts around the globe, as it will be seamlessly connected to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, allowing guests a total Star Wars experience.
I was especially interested in the fact that every resort window will have a view into space. Spoiler alert, I’m really not a Star Wars fan. My son is a huge Star Wars fan. And, my wife is a big Chewbacca fan (yes, I had to look up the correct spelling). It stands to reason we’ll end up in this hotel one day.
What really interests me is if Disney plans to use augmented or virtual reality on the windows. That would be expensive, but also pretty awesome!
The Final Two Pennies
We’re still over a year away from this hotel and Star Wars: Galaxy Edge being a reality. Disney obviously thinks that Star Wars has enough demand to theme an entire hotel around it. That’s a pretty big step. Even though I’m not a huge Star Wars fan, I understand some of the passion associated with it. Connecting this hotel directly to the new Star Wars experience is a pretty cool idea as well.
Theming an entire hotel, even a small one, is a substantial long-term commitment. And yet, I think Disney will do just fine.
