I’m Back, Sort Of

a large white airplane with people around it

Sorry things have been quiet for a day or so here.  I’m back in the United States after a whirlwind trip that touched 4 continents from start to finish.  Being part of a humanitarian relief flight to Africa was really more than I could have hoped for.

I’m in Dallas today for American Airlines Media Day.  Last night, I was standing in the lobby with Gary Leff of View From the Wing.  He asked me when the last time I slept in an actual bed was.  I spent the last two “nights” sleeping on planes, and I guess I looked the part.

I got more sleep last night than the last two combined.  And, the airplane beds were infinitely more comfortable than the bed the two previous nights.

There were adventures in Europe and Africa, including a last-minute chance to fly in the cockpit of the 787-9 on takeoff.  We rounded out the trip with a brief unscheduled stop in Athens and a 787 with a belly full of medicine and supplies that are desperately needed by the children in Africa.  Seeing the reaction of the folks we were bringing supplies to, meeting so many UNICEF folks was a truly meaningful experience for me.

I’ve got so many stories to share with all of you.  There are a few that I need to share with my family first, but I promise to share them all with you soon.

I can’t wait to share it all with you.

For now, just a few images from an incredible trip:

  1. You keep mention “Africa” and “Children in Africa” as if Africa is a country or a city. Please add specificity to where you participated in relief activities. It’s akin to saying Mexico needs aid, so we flew to North America.

  2. Hi Edward,

Happy to hear that you came back to the U.S. safe and sound!
Thanks for joining us on this epic trip, we were happy to have you (especially up in the flight deck)
I’m looking forward to my next 5 guys Burger next week in Seattle 😉
    Take care
