Did You Win $250 From Me?
Thanks to everyone who entered my Club1Hotels giveaway. In case you missed it, I was recently introduced to a new site, Club1Hotels. They truly offer lower rates than other channels out there, including Expedia and the hotel’s website.
They’ve set up a page where folks can register for a free 1-year Beta membership. They currently sell membership for $675, but you can sign up with no credit card on file for the first year for free.
You can see the instructions on how to sign up for free here.
When I’m approached with offers like this to feature for readers, I want to know what the underlying business model is. I’m an investor in my “day job”, so I evaluate whether things are likely to succeed or fail on a daily basis. The business model is right up the alley with one of my all-time favorite retail stores. To me, this is the “Costco of OTAs”. They plan to pass on wholesale booking rates to customers and charge a membership fee, similar to Costco.
The rates do come with a booking fee, which Club1 describes as the credit card processing charges, since they say these are truly wholesale rates. I have no way to prove they are wholesale, but many of the rates they offer are lower. I found the savings to be more significant on pricier hotels.
Anyway, part of the Club1 promotion was that they also gave me $250 in hotel cash to be spent on their site to award to one of my readers. I used Random.org and selected Dwi Suryaningsih as the winner with this winning comment:
Sofitel Paris Arc de Triomphe would be my choice.
I’ve never stayed at the Sofitel, but I’ve been to Paris twice. It’s a classic city people love to visit and was especially popular in the comments for this contest.
Congrats to Dwi! You should be receiving an e-mail from me shortly on how to collect your prize.
