It’s About Time Dulles Airport Got A Kids Play Area

Dulles Airport Kids Play Area

Dulles Airport has been making a concerted effort to improve over the last few years.  The parts of the A/B concourse (there was some renaming in there a few years ago) that caters to international travel, American Airlines, JetBlue, Delta and Southwest has been nice for over a decade.  However, concourse C and D have been a blight for years.

Recently, they’ve started upgrading the food and retail options in both concourses.  It’s a very slow process, but they’re definitely making progress.  But, one thing the airport has lacked as long as I can remember is a children’s play area.  Not anymore:

The majority of domestic travelers will never see the play area since it resides in Concourse B across from gate B71.  That’s right amongst the American Airlines gates (and JetBlue, Delta and Virgin) so I should see it quite a bit.

It looks like NASA is the key sponsors as opposed to a local business, airline or contractor.  That’s not terribly surprising for the DC area.

Making Airports Fun

It’s great to see Dulles add something so simple.  I really enjoy watching airplanes and my kids do too, sometimes.  The rest of the time, they’re just kids.  They love having somewhere to play.  And now, they’ve got that at our home airport!

  1. That is great!! I always appreciate when airports have kids play areas. SEA has a nice large one. I was really disappointed when SLC got rid of theirs during some renovations. Maybe once they get rid of the smoking rooms they will be able to find space to put one back in.

  2. I flew in and out of Dulles on Frontier for a FTU event, a few years ago. Got nicked for a $7 one-way bus fare, just to catch the Metro. No tickets machine anywhere.

My understanding is that the silver line expansion has become a money pit and an embarrassment for WMTA.
