Last Day For Increased SPG Amex Bonus
The Starwood Preferred American Express cards have been a part of my wallet since the early part of last decade. It’s been so long I honestly don’t remember what the sign-up bonus was, though I’m pretty sure I received one.
Right now, both the personal and business versions of the card have an increased sign-up bonus of 30,000 points. And, according to View From The Wing, today is the last day you’ll see the increased bonus.
There is a personal and a business version of the card, and I have both. For small business owners, you can read why I think the OPEN benefits make this card a great value. On an annual basis, I generally save 10 times the annual fee in OPEN savings. It’s not difficult with discounts on FedEx, Hertz and Hyatt (yes, Hyatt on an SPG-branded card) that are automatic.
If I remember correctly, you used to be able to spend $30,000 on these cards to earn Gold status each year. Now, you get stay and night credits towards elite status (2 stays, 5 nights) on each card, giving you a pretty big head start on elite status just for having the cards. If you choose to use your card for hotel stays, there are some truly wonderful properties worldwide.
Because of the litany of airline partners and the ultra-generous transfer rates to airlines (1:1 for the most part, with a 25% bonus when you transfer 20,000 points), you should have at least one SPG Amex in your wallet. If you only want one and you can qualify for a small business card, the OPEN discounts make that the clear choice.
Thank you for the head’s up. I applied for biz card this morning. Received message to call agent (pending status). Called and representative did his gate keeping and said, “wow, that was the fastest approval I have seen.” I still got it, whatever IT is!
