Cause and Effect: Passenger Farts, Plane Evacuated???
There were reports recently that a passenger passed gas that was so offensive an American Airlines flight had to be evacuated (thanks to Margaret F for sending it my way). It seemed to be reliable information. Yesterday morning, I started typing up a post about it. After all, the 15-year old boy in me couldn’t help but chuckle.
Now, it appears there is news that the passenger wasn’t actually the problem. American Airlines has released a statement saying it was a mechanical issue with the plane that caused the smell to permeate the cabin. Even the original news stories have been updated to indicate the new, ahem, outcome.
The Final Two Pennies
This is certainly less amusing than the previous story. In the end, it’s most important that nobody was hurt. But, a little 10th grade humor wouldn’t have been the worst thing! Ben brings up a good point, though. How did the first talking points get out from the airline indicating this was flatulence and not a mechanical issue?
