I’m Home “For The Rest Of The Year”
Admit it. If you’re a business traveler, you’ve probably said this to someone you love. Maybe a husband or wife, son or daughter, girlfriend or boyfriend. If you’re the significant other of someone who travels a lot, you’ve heard this.
It’s December 17th. I got home from my last trip of 2016 a few days ago. I’m home for the rest of the year. I love being home. I especially love being home around the holidays.
But, let’s not kid ourselves. The new year starts in about 2 weeks. All the elite status trackers will reset to zero. Many folks will hop back on the status treadmill shortly after the new year starts. I’ve been one of those folks for the last 8-10 years. I won’t be tackling it with the same veracity in 2017 (at least I hope not).
I’m hoping to travel less in 2017. I’ve said that in the past. I feel like I mean it each time I say it. And yet, my wife is right to be skeptical.
I’ll be spending the rest of the year buying last-minute gifts for my family and catching up on work, blog posts and the hazardous waste dump I call my desk.
At any rate, it feels good to say “I’m home for the rest of the year.” If you’re a business traveler, I hope you are too.
