Cobblestones Claim Many
The cobblestones of Paris-Roubaix claimed a number of riders in today’s Stage 3 of the Tour de France.
Frank Schleck, a great rider (although not as good as his brother, Andy) fell on one of the early cobblestone portions. It’s still unclear how badly he’s hurt, but it looked pretty bad.
Sylvain Chavanel, the holder of the maillot jaune, had at least 4 bikes break on the cobblestones, and lost an astounding 4 minutes, along with the yellow jersey.
Alberto Contador lost a little more than a minute. Lance lost about 2 minutes, although only a minute to Contador. While Cadel Evans and Vinokourov lurk ahead, Contador is the real challenge. A minute’s not a lot, but Lance doesn’t have much room for error.
