Watch an Airbus A350 Vertical Takeoff at ILA Berlin 2018
First entering service in 2014, Airbus has delivered 167 of their A350s, just about 20% of the 832 (net) orders they’ve received since 2006. While there’s been much talk about the new Delta One Suites on their A350-900s or the first A350-1000 delivered to Qatar Airways this year, it was the A350 vertical takeoff that had heads turning last month at ILA Berlin 2018. Still owned by Airbus, the second oldest A350-900XWB aircraft (MSN002, registration F-WWCF) is used for air shows and sales demonstrations.

Not The Only One
It should be noted that this Airbus A350 is not the first, nor is it the only model or manufacturer to show off the impressive engineering feats that go into the design of these modern airplanes. What has become almost an air show tradition, Airbus and Boeing have repeatedly shown off their competing models with vertical takeoffs of the B737 MAX and B787 Dreamliner.

I imagine that a view from the side would show this takeoff to be far from “vertical.”
