Need A Lyft? Earn Up To 5 Flexible Points Per Dollar With Bilt’s Newest Partner

Bilt Rewards announced a new partnership today that should be rewarding for anyone who uses rideshare services such as Lyft and Uber.  The best part of this new partnership is that you don’t need to hold the Bilt Rewards Mastercard to earn bonus points (though you can earn even more if you are a cardholder).  I actually learned about this new partnership yesterday morning recording my podcast with Richard Kerr and Zach Abel from Monkey Miles.  Earning flexible points for Lyft rides is a big win for a whole lot of people.

Earn Bilt Rewards Points On All Lyft Rides

Effective immediately, Bilt Rewards members can earn points on Lyft rides at two different earning rates:

  • Earn two Bilt Rewards Points per dollar on all Lyft rides once you connect your Lyft and Bilt Rewards accounts.
  • Earn an additional three Bilt Rewards Points per dollar if you pay for the ride with the Bilt Rewards Mastercard for a total of five points per dollar on Lyft rides.

To be clear, you don’t need to have the Bilt card to earn two points per dollar on Lyft rides.  Similar to the Delta/Lyft partnership, you can earn points just by linking your Bilt Rewards account to your Lyft account.  You’ll need to choose which partner to connect your Lyft account to.  Unfortunately you can’t double-dip with Delta and Bilt on your Lyft rides.

However, for a “no strings attached” partnership, Bilt clearly wins here.  Delta offers one mile per dollar on Lyft rides and that bumps up to two miles per dollar on rides to/from the airport on days when you’ve booked a Delta flight.  Linking your Bilt account means at least two Bilt Rewards Points per dollar on those Lyft rides.  I’d be hard pressed to believe there are going to be many folks who would prefer two SkyMiles versus two Bilt Rewards Points.

As we discussed on the podcast this week with special guest Zach from Monkey Miles, combining this with paying for rides with your Bilt card will net you five points per dollar.  While you can earn 10 points per dollar on the Chase Sapphire Reserve for a limited time with Lyft rides, no other card beats Bilt on Lyft earning (and all those other cards have annual fees).

How Does This Work?

Once you link your account, points will post to your Bilt Rewards account automatically on future Lyft rides.  For folks with the Bilt Rewards Mastercard, you’ll actually see points post in two separate batches for each ride.  Once you “close out” the ride, indicating whether you want to leave a tip or not, the posting process starts working in the background.  Within 72 hours you should see the two points per dollar post.  Cardholders will see the three points per dollar post separately and should see it fairly quickly since Bilt knows you’ve had a Lyft charge right after the transaction posts.  I’ll be testing this today on a ride to the airport.

The Final Two Pennies

Every time Bilt launches a new partnership it gets harder to argue why you shouldn’t add this no annual fee card to your wallet.  I’m not one to push hard for folks to sign up for credit cards, but the Bilt Rewards Mastercard packs a ton of value into their card.  And, being able to earn two transferable points just for linking your accounts is a big plus.

If you’re not a road warrior who also has a bunch of spending for work, it can be tough to build up a huge points balance.  That means taking advantage of opportunities like this to earn points for things you’re already doing.  If a Lyft ride is in your future, you can be building up your balance of transferable points.  Keep in mind that Bilt Rewards has some excellent partnerships with travel brands such as Hyatt, American and United Airlines.  Earning two AAdvantage miles per dollar for a Lyft ride?  Sign me up! Double dip and earn five Bilt Rewards Points per dollar with the Bilt Rewards Mastercard?  No brainer.
