Instant Top-Tier Hotel Status, Reasonable Offer To Extend Until End Of 2023

There’s an easy way to get IHG One Rewards Diamond status right now.  I don’t expect this to be around a long time so you may want to work quickly on this one.  Originally reported by MileLion (I saw it on View From The Wing), you just need to enter your IHG loyalty account number to qualify for status.  It’ll literally take you longer to look up your IHG number than it will to register for the status upgrade.

Here’s the link.

I was granted Diamond status instantly through the end of 2022.  The offer allows folks to retain status until the end of 2023 if they stay 10 nights in IHG properties by the end of December, 2022.  There’s only a couple months left in the year so 10 nights may be out of reach for most folks.  Still, 10 nights for top-tier hotel status is pretty reasonable.

However, the other value from top-tier status is the ability to use it to status match to another hotel program.  In this case, you would use the IHG One Rewards status to apply for a status match with another major hotel brand such as Hyatt, Hilton, Marriott or Wyndham.

IHG recently rolled out a completely new program with some promising benefits.  It’s still too early to tell how reliably these benefits will be delivered to members.  In the past, elite status with IHG didn’t offer a ton of benefits, so there’s not a lot of history on how things like late check-out, suite upgrades and lounge access will be honored at a property level.

The Final Two Pennies

I learned early on when I began collecting points and miles that it made sense to sign up for promotions and grab elite status even when I wasn’t 100% sure I could put it to good use.  Plans change and you never know when status might come in handy.  With hotels and airplanes as full as I’ve ever seen them, having elite status can be the difference between sleeping in a comfy bed and sleeping on the airport floor.

As View From The Wing notes, IHG probably didn’t mean for this offer to be as widely available as it seems to be.  You may want to take a screenshot of the status once you activate it, just in case.

      1. Dang, I’m not sure why but I can’t get mine to work on my account or my wife’s account. I have tried different browsers too.

  1. I tried for myself and my husband using your link and IHG says the code is invalid. Might be specific to the recipient
