Great Deal! Cheap Flights to New Zealand In Premium Economy!

Apologies again for things being quiet the last few days.  Being under the weather in rural Canada on a family vacation will do that.  But, I’m back and pretty happy to see these great fares from the US to New Zealand.

Cheap flights to New Zealand are sort of like a unicorn.  Mythical creatures that make the world seem like a brighter place.  These fares are in premium economy, which means a lot more comfort for not a lot more price on these very long flights.

My buddy Gilbert over at God Save The Points reported on this just a little while ago.  The unique thing about this sale is not just the fact that it features a solid premium economy product.  It’s the flexibility of the sale.  As noted, these fares are available from a number of US cities, including New York, Dallas, Los Angeles and San Jose.  Folks North of the border even get involved with cheap fares from Vancouver to Auckland.  And, you’ll find a range of dates from October 2018 until March of 2019.  That makes for a great recipe.  If that weren’t enough, it appears you can make Auckland or Queenstown your initial destination.

How To Play This

I always stress that you shouldn’t look at any fare sale as “San Francisco to Auckland”.  Rather, it’s from the US To New Zealand and the surrounding area.  You can use miles or other cheap flights to build a great vacation.  It’s pretty easy to find a cheap flight to one of these US cities for positioning on something like this.  And, I don’t think it would be too difficult to tack on a trip to Australia while you’re “in the neighborhood”.  I can’t wait to get back to Sydney.

For flights to places as far away as New Zealand, I think coach is a tough way to start the trip of a lifetime.  These fares make a comfortable seat a lot easier to stomach.  Award seats in business class or a true premium economy product are tough to come by to New Zealand.  That might change a bit with new service from Chicago.

Since these flights originate in the US, you’ll have 24 hours after you book to cancel these flights and receive a full refund.  That means if you’re on the fence you should probably book something and then cancel within 24 hours if you decide not to take the trip.  With prices this low, I wouldn’t expect them to be around forever!

  1. Might these flights be mileage run worthy if crediting back to Delta(work with me here…)? Isn’t China Southern a SkyTeam member?
MQM’s(for status) are based on actual distance flown and New Zealand is a haul.

    1. geoff, China Southern is a Skyteam member. Assuming these book into W or S, I believe you should earn 100% MQMs based on miles flown and 20% MQDs. It’s about 6,500 miles from LAX to AKL. That means you’d earn 13,000 MQMs round trip for the ~$1300 fare.
