United Announces They Will Start Flying To Tahiti in 2018

United Airlines officially announced this morning that they will start flying from San Francisco to Tahiti in late 2018.

New destinations and routes are a bit like candy for me.  I definitely geek out on this stuff more than the average person.  But, in this case, I think most folks will be interested.

Live and Let’s Fly covers the announcement and has details on the new flight timing:

Why You Should Care

Tahiti is a tough place to get to from the US using points or miles.  Availability is often really tough to come by.  It can involve some pretty circuitous routes when you do find award seats.  I don’t have official confirmation on how many points award seats will run, and we’ll obviously need to see how much demand there is for paid travel on the route.

United is only flying this route 3 times a week, but they’re flying it on a 787.  That’s a lot of opportunities for us to cash in our United miles (or Chase Ultimate Rewards points) to fly someplace many folks only dream about.  The friends I know that have been to places like Tahiti and Bora Bora have only wonderful things to say.
