I’m liking these 15X “flash sale” mileage offers. Mommy Points reports on the list of merchants who are offering 15 miles per dollar. It’s a pretty mainstream list, a lot of folks should have opportunities to take advantage of this for normal purchases:
- eBags
- Old Navy
- Banana Republic
- Groupon
- Neiman Marcus
- Nike
- Shoebuy
- Coach
- Under Armour
- Sunglass Hut
- Rosetta Stone
- H&R Block
- Sleepy’s
- Saks OFF Fifth
- Lord & Taylor
Let’s Think About The Math For A Minute
Everyone has different values for their miles. Some people don’t even really think how much their worth. It seems like not a day goes by where I don’t tell someone miles are currency. Just like dollars, pesos, Euro. For easy math, let’s just say a United MileagePlus mile is worth 2 cents. Some might argue it’s a bit lower, but let’s use a round number.
That means for every dollar you normally spend at one of these merchants (if they offered 1 mile per dollar), you get a 2 cent “rebate”. Now, do the math on 15 miles per dollar. If you can use the miles for award tickets, you’re getting a ridiculous 30% rebate on your spending. Even if you only thought United Miles were worth a penny a piece, that’s still a 15% rebate on your spending.
Folks who don’t travel for a living need to leverage opportunities like this. Especially if you’re trying to fly a family of 3 or 4 to Europe for a summer vacation, bonus opportunities are where you can stack up miles in big chunks.
Most of these merchants pay 2, 3 or 4 miles per dollar on a “normal” day through the shopping portals. Getting 5 or 6 times as many miles is a rare treat.
If you’ve got some shopping at these merchants, today is the day to do it.
