Cheap Flights To Japan, Free Starbucks And A Great AvGeek Story

a close up of a sign

Here’s what I’m reading about in the world of miles and points:

Cheap Flights of the Day:

Delta is attacking American hubs with $550 flights to Tokyo.

In Case You Missed It:

Scott Kirby Has The Greatest Frequent Flyer Membership In The World

Is Marriott Rewards New MegaBonus Promotion Better Than The Competition?

The awesome new Turkish lounge at Dulles Airport opened yesterday. Here’s a great photo tour.  I’m sooooo looking forward to visiting this lounge, even more so after seeing the pictures.

Starwood Preferred Guest is discounting a handful of key international resorts for award stays by 35%.  These are all “exception” properties that already cost quite a bit of points per night, as much as 60,000 points a night.  So, the discounts bring the award price down from stratospheric to tolerable.  I haven’t visited any of these properties but they represent some of the best SPG has to offer (and thus, some of the greatest redemptions when they’re discounted).

And, if you’ve never been to the Maldives, how about a free stay?

I can’t help it. As an aviation geek, I just love this story.

Hilton Hotels now has a central place where you can see and register for all their promos.

Choice Hotels’ promo is out for those that participate in their program.

$20 in Starbucks cash for only $10.  No-brainer.

A bunch of great AMEX offers, including $30 off at Lowe’s.

Fee-free Visa gift cards and a few extra dollars in your pocket are back.

American Airlines is running waaaay behind on the final pieces of their integration.  Most of those aren’t visible to customers, but they are slowing down some of the synergies associated with the merger.  The intimation is that the IT department might not have all the tools they need to fight the fires they have.  Having listened to Doug Parker talk before, that wouldn’t be terribly surprising.

A gate agent steals $130K in jewelry.  Who the hell carries $130K in jewelry with them?  I need to go play Powerball….
