Upgrades Coming For Your US Airways MasterCard, A Review Of Quantum Of The Seas, Dynamic Award Pricing From United And More Travel News

Folks holding the US Airways MasterCard (like me) are still waiting for information on how to upgrade from the AAdvantage Aviator Red card to Silver.  It’s been reported that the Silver card will include the ability to earn EQMs alongside the Citi Executive card, so it’s on my radar.  View From The Wing tells us it’s still going to be a while.  First, you have to get your new card, and then they have to open up the ability to switch.  As he notes, I’m sure they’ll make those offers widespread.  But, the later in the year it gets the less likely folks will be able to spend the amount required to earn those EQMs.

MJ On Travel has a thorough write-up on Royal Caribbean’s new Quantum of the Seas.  I haven’t discussed it much on the blog, but our family really enjoys cruising.  We haven’t been in a few years but look forward to ramping it up in 2016.  I’m still not sure how I feel about the megaships, like Quantum.  We’ve cruised on the Freedom class of ships, but not on the larger Oasis ships either.  Freedom felt big enough for us, but I’m sure we’ll find ourselves on Oasis or Quantum at some point.

Did you hear?  In one of the least surprising bits of news I’ve seen in a while, Wandering Aramean reports that United plans to move to dynamic pricing for award seats later this year.  I wonder how bad it will be…..

It seems like there are a lot of cheap (non-mistake) fares floating around right now.  The Points Guy details sub-$600 pricing from the East Coast to Asia.  That’s a really solid price for coach tickets, though I’m not sure I have the stomach for a flight to Asia in coach.

Speaking of The Points Guy, have you cast your vote in his Travel Rewards March Madness Championship?  Personally, I’d trade either of the finalists for two more Duke wins…..

Unsurprisingly, MyVegas is getting less rewarding.  I still think there’s value here if you have spare keyboard time and/or are good at multi-tasking.
